Trudeau, 53, split from wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. They share three teenage children. Meanwhile, Perry, 40, confirmed the end of her engagement with Bloom in early July, after they welcomed daughter Daisy in 2020.

“Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfill their parenting responsibilities,” the source says. “For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two.”

On Monday, Perry and Trudeau were photographed walking a dog through Montréal’s Mount Royal Park before enjoying a meal at local restaurant Le Violon.

The duo met with Chef Danny Smiles during dinner and headed to the kitchen after their meal to thank the staff. According to TMZ, Perry and Trudeau enjoyed cocktails and several dishes, though they weren’t seen indulging in any PDA.

“Justin is a [politician] who is used to living a secret life with his personal activity, and wouldn’t put on a public display at this stage,” another Canadian source tells PEOPLE. “He knows they were being watched and is smart enough to play it low-key for now.”

“[The] timing seems good for them, although a romance is in very early stages,” the source adds.

Then, on Wednesday, July 30, Trudeau was spotted in the crowd at Perry’s sold-out Lifetimes Tour at Montréal’s Bell Centre.

The former prime minister was seen in the crowd wearing a casual black T-shirt as he smiled while watching the singer’s performance, even singing along to some of her hits.
